Hi folks! Essas duas palavras confundem muito os alunos quando estão aprendendo os substantivos contáveis e incontáveis. Ambas estão relacionadas à quantidade. Vamos ver a diferença:
MANY = muitos; usado com substantivos contáveis em:
Negativas: There aren't many movie theaters here.
She didn't buy many apples.
My brother doesn't have many friends.
Perguntas: Do many tourists come to São Paulo?
Are there many buildings in your neighborhood?
Did you eat many eggs last night?
MUCH = muito; usado com substantivos incontáveis em:
Negativas: I don't have much food in the house.
There isn't much snow in the mountains.
I don't have much time to do my homework.
Perguntas: Do you have much baggage?
Is there much traffic in your city?
Do you need much sugar fo this recipe?
Many e Much também são usados em afirmativas, mas somente na escrita, pois tem um sentido mais formal. No inglês falado usamos a lot of / lots of.
I have many friends.(escrito) -> I have lots of friends.(falado)
There is much information in this book. (escrito) -> There is a lot of information in this book.(falado)
That's all.
See ya!
